A downloadable game for Windows

From the Ashes is a 2D roguelike game developed during my second year of University. I was tasked with creating a mechanics-based prototype within the limits of the roguelike genre and the 2D art style. As a solo project - with a chance to integrate music from another student if necessary - I was solely responsible for all design decisions within the game. I decided on a fast-paced combat and traversal system. The projectile fight choice proved to be the right one, so that the player is able to jump around the level while simultaneously delivering threats to enemies. I had to source external art and also had a beautiful collaboration with a music student who is now part of a personal project. I designed multiple enemy archetypes to challenge the player's abilities, adaptability and resilience. I added a shop to spend coins, replenish life, or even to get a little ghost that accompanies the player for the duration of the level. The ghost does not add advantage, but will happily follow the player on their journey. Who wouldn't want some company when exploring catacombs full of enemies ready to destroy you?
